Radiator Repairs & Heating Maintenance in Sheffield

A leaking radiator or one that fails to heat properly is more than an inconvenience — left untreated, water damage can become costly, and reduced heat output wastes energy with every heating cycle. As an experienced Gas Safe registered engineer, Paul diagnoses and fixes radiator problems efficiently, from simple valve replacements to full radiator changes.

Whether you have a single leaking radiator or a system where multiple radiators are underperforming, Omni Gas provides a professional heating maintenance service across Sheffield and the surrounding areas.

    Common Radiator Problems We Fix

    Leaking from the valve

The most common radiator leak. Usually caused by a corroded or worn valve body or packing gland. Often fixed with a valve replacement without draining the full system.

Leaking from a joint or the radiator body

Pin-hole leaks in the radiator body caused by internal corrosion, or weeping joints at connection points. May require radiator replacement if the body is corroded through.

    Cold spots at the bottom

Sludge and rust deposits settle in the base of radiators, preventing full heat distribution. Often resolved with power flushing or individual radiator flushing.

    Cold at the top

Air trapped at the top of the radiator prevents water from filling the space. Resolved by bleeding the radiator — a quick fix that should be repeated if it recurs frequently.

Radiator not getting hot at all

Caused by a stuck or closed valve, or a TRV that has seized. Valve replacement or TRV servicing typically resolves this without needing to replace the radiator.

    Noisy radiator

Banging, ticking, or gurgling sounds often indicate air in the system, water hammer, or sludge. A system investigation will identify the root cause and the appropriate fix.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Will fixing my leaking radiator stop the leak permanently?

In most cases, yes. A properly repaired or replaced valve or joint will provide a permanent fix. However, if a radiator is leaking from the body due to internal corrosion caused by sludge build-up, a radiator replacement combined with a system power flush is the most reliable long-term solution. Paul will always diagnose the root cause and advise on the best repair approach rather than applying a temporary fix.

Can you replace just one radiator, or does the whole system need to be drained?

Individual radiators can often be replaced by isolating them using the lockshield and TRV valves, meaning the rest of the system does not need to be fully drained. This makes single radiator replacement a relatively quick job. Paul will confirm the approach for your specific system when he assesses the work.

My radiators are cold even though the boiler is working — what could be wrong?

There are several possible causes: a circulation pump fault, air in the system, stuck or closed valves, or sludge preventing water flow. In some cases, a faulty zone valve or programmer issue means certain rooms aren't receiving heat even when the boiler fires. Paul will carry out a systematic diagnostic to identify the exact fault and advise on the most cost-effective repair.
